Mercedes Hurtado-Sarrio, was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1962. She was resident in training in ophthalmology (1989-1993) in La Fe University hospital, and received the PhD degree in 1994 from the University of Valencia with the doctoral thesis entitled “Corneal topographic analysis. Computarized videokeratography”.
About professional and clinical experience, she has worked in several hospitals:
Tarragona (Barcelona), Elda Hospital (Alicante), La Ribera Hospital (Valencia), Arnau de Vilanova (Valencia), and nowadays in La Fe University and Polytechnic
hospital (last seventeen years). Since 2012 to 2017 (five years) she has is been Head of Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Unit in La Fe university and Polytechnic hospital.
She is collaborator professor of Ophthalmology in Valencia University.
She has a Master in management of health resources (June-2012) Master in Bioethics (June-2017)
Associated Professor in the University of Medicine in Valencia (Spain) since December 2018
She has been examiner of European Board of Ophthalmology during six years (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), receiving the “AD EUNDEM”
FEBO (Fellow European Board Ophthalmology) in May-2012.
She has been involved in 4 investigative projects in “la Fundación para investigación” La Fe Hospital as main researcher. She received the prize in
Ophthalmic investigations Dr. Juan Pallarés in 1998, the second prize in 5th Edition of CSIF in Security and Health at work (2003), and the third prize in 11th Edition of CSIF in Security and Health at work (2009).
Prize “Sanitaria 2000” in March 2018.
She has published 15 international and 30 national papers, and conference contributions in 13 international congress and 37 national congress. She has collaborated with chapters in five ophthalmology books, and participated in two multicenter assays.
She is Editorial Board Member of World Journal of Ophthalmology and referee of the following journals: archives of ophthalmology (Spanish) during 19 years and nominated as “Elite evaluator”, Journal cataract and refractive surgery, British Journal Ophthalmology, Indian Journal Ophthalmology.
